The highly anticipated debut album form South African musician Mnqobi Yazo’ has finally been dropped and it wasn’t a disappointment. The album consisting of 20 tracks featured a coctail of genres. Th album gave us Afro-pop, African trap, and maskandi. The album also came with features from artists like Shwi Nomtekhala, Musiholiq, and Nobuhle. The album was also the the first project to be done by him after he signing to the popular lebel Mabala Noise.
The album starts off with an aknowlegment from Mnqobi to his Zulu ethnic group about how far he has come.
In an interview before the release of his album, Mnqobi says that in order to make South African traditional music appeal to the youths, he fuses hip-hop and maskani among many other styles to his music. He says he makes music with “isigqi sase South Africa” or South African rythem.
The album is filled with many hits which are mainly sung in a blend of hip-hop and maskandi. Mnqobi really went above and beyond inorder to please his fans with this album and it really shows in the music.
